Getting Around Bakewell with a Dog

Bakewell is small and easily walked from end to end, so most of your time with a dog will be on foot or in the car. The town has no railway station of its own; the nearest stations are at Matlock, Grindleford and Hathersage, all a bus or taxi ride away, and dogs travel free on National Rail (up to two per passenger, kept on a lead). Local Peak District buses connect Bakewell with Buxton, Matlock and Sheffield, and generally allow a well-behaved dog at the driver's discretion. Manchester Airport is the most useful gateway for overseas visitors, roughly an hour by car, with Birmingham a little further south.
