Dog-Friendly Days Out around Bakewell

One of the most famous views in the Peak District: a high grassy overlook gazing down the Wye valley to the arches of the Headstone Viaduct far below. Dogs on a lead are welcome at the viewpoint and on the footpaths that drop down to the river and the trail. There is a pub and a cafe at the top, several of which welcome dogs outside.

A picture-perfect limestone village just outside Bakewell, best known for the low medieval Sheepwash Bridge over the River Wye, where sheep were once washed before shearing. It is a gentle, pretty stroll on the lead, easily combined with a riverside walk back towards Bakewell along the Wye. Quiet lanes, tea rooms and a classic English churchyard make it an easy hour with a dog.

The town itself is a pleasant, wander-friendly attraction. Dogs on a lead can join you around Rutland Square, over the five-arched medieval bridge, and up to the hillside churchyard of All Saints for a fine view over the rooftops. The famous Monday market and the numerous bakeries selling Bakewell pudding and tart make this a lively, easy town to explore on four legs and two.
