Dog Parks & Walks in Austin

Austin's flagship park at 351 acres, with the Great Lawn functioning as an unfenced off-leash area between 5am and 10pm daily. Dogs must stay under voice control since there's no fence between the lawn and Barton Springs Road, Bouldin Avenue, and the parking areas. Dogs are barred from the playground, the pool, and the sports fields at all times. Combine a visit with the Lady Bird Lake trail, which runs along the park's northern edge.

A 13-acre island just below the Tom Miller Dam on Lake Austin, and one of the city's most-loved off-leash spots. A shaded loop trail circles the island under cypress and redbud trees, with several gravel and grass entry points where dogs swim freely in the calm water below the dam. It's unfenced and gets busy, arrive early on weekends. Parking is limited and fills fast.

A downtown lakefront park with a designated off-leash area between Riverside Drive and Lady Bird Lake, including a gravel dog launch where dogs jump straight into the lake for a swim. The rest of the park, including the section along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, is on-leash only, with citations of up to USD 500 for loose dogs outside the marked zone. The downtown skyline view across the water makes this one of the most scenic dog walks in the city.
