Amalfi's centre is small and fairly flat along the seafront, but the coast road and the villages above mean you will lean on buses and boats. The SITA SUD coast buses and the local orange lines take leashed, muzzled dogs, and the seasonal ferries from the pier are a cooler, calmer way to reach Positano, Salerno or Capri than the winding switchback road. Whichever you take, avoid the 7 to 9 am rush and the peak midday heat, and always carry your dog's muzzle.

The blue SITA SUD buses run the coast road linking Amalfi with Positano, Sorrento, Ravello and Salerno. Small pets are allowed on a leash or in a carrier and must wear a muzzle where required; buses get very crowded in summer, so travel early.

Seasonal ferries link Amalfi with Positano, Salerno, Minori, Maiori and Capri, a scenic and far less nauseating option than the winding road. Dogs travel with a leash and muzzle for a small fare, and small pets may go in a carrier; pets stay out of the enclosed passenger lounges.
