Alghero rewards dog owners who like to explore on foot: the Catalan old town and sea-wall ramparts are an open-air attraction in themselves, and even the famous Neptune Grotto admits leashed, muzzled dogs. Capo Caccia, Porto Conte park
A spectacular sea cave beneath the Capo Caccia cliffs, reached by boat from Alghero or by the 654-step Escala del Cabirol stairway. Dogs are admitted with a leash and muzzle on both the land descent and the boat tours.

Porto Conte, west of Alghero
A dramatic limestone headland and protected park of cliffs, maquis and sea views west of the city. The open coastal roads and viewpoints are great for leashed dog walks, with far more shade and breeze than the city centre.
