Utrecht

The Netherlands' tallest church tower, separated from the rest of the cathedral by a 1674 storm. The interior only admits assistance dogs, but the Domplein square and the adjoining Pandhof gardens are accessible on leash at any time.

The medieval canal threading the centre, lined with the unique lower wharves (werven) cut at water level in the 13th century. Cobbled stone, flower-banked terraces, and moored boats are Utrecht's visual signature, every lower-level terrace is dog-friendly.

Utrecht's largest park (≈ 300 ha) in Leidsche Rijn, with multiple signed off-leash zones, swim ponds and a flat 10 km perimeter loop. The city's reference canine playground, reachable in 12 minutes on tram 22.

A 16-hectare urban park north of the centre with a marked off-leash zone, dog-friendly café, and a steady stream of local dogs. The easiest off-leash run if you stay central, 15 minutes on foot from the Domplein.

Two adjoining estates 5 km southeast, threaded by the Kromme Rijn river and laced with old beech woods. Dogs leashed on Amelisweerd, off-leash on the towpath and at Rhijnauwen under voice control. The Theehuis Rhijnauwen tea house welcomes dogs.

An elegant 19th-century landscape park east of the centre, with a serpentine pond and tall plane trees. Leashed dogs are welcome on the lawns, and the Theehuis at the south end welcomes four-legged guests on its terrace.
