Krakow

The spiritual heart of Poland crowns a limestone hill above the Vistula. Leashed dogs are welcome across the outdoor courtyards, ramparts, and Dragon's Den approach, though the cathedral and state rooms remain off-limits. Sunrise walks along the castle walls are a local ritual.

A four-kilometer ring of parkland tracing the line of the old medieval walls, Planty is Krakow's favorite dog-walking loop. Thirty interconnected gardens with benches, fountains, and shade trees make it ideal for a slow circuit around the Old Town. Most of it is flat, paved, and stroller-and-paw friendly.

The former Jewish district has become Krakow's most soulful neighborhood, with synagogues, vintage shops, and courtyard cafes. Plac Nowy's outdoor terraces are famously dog-friendly, and nearly every third-wave coffee bar keeps a bowl by the door. Evenings bring low-key bar life that welcomes calm canines.

Wide riverside promenades stretch for kilometers on both banks of the Vistula, linking Wawel to Kazimierz and beyond. Runners, cyclists, and dog walkers share a flat, car-free path with grass strips for quick stops. Summer brings river barges turned into floating cafes, many of which allow leashed dogs on deck.

A vast wooded hill just west of the center, Las Wolski is Krakow's lungs. Trails climb to the Piłsudski Mound and the Camaldolese Monastery with sweeping views over the Carpathian foothills. Dogs must stay leashed on marked paths; the zoo inside the forest does not admit them.

Europe's largest medieval square hosts the Cloth Hall, St. Mary's Basilica, and the hourly bugle call from the tower. Leashed dogs can cross the square and join terrace tables, though the interior of churches and the underground museum are closed to pets. Early morning is the calmest time to visit.
