Kolobrzeg

The 26-metre brick lighthouse at the harbour mouth, rebuilt after the war and open for a 109-step climb. The grounds and courtyard welcome leashed dogs, though the tight spiral stairs to the top gallery are best left to one person at a time.

Poland's longest concrete pier, running over 220 metres out into the Baltic with open sea views on both sides. Wide, flat and free, it's an easy walk with a leashed dog at any time of day.

The seaside spa park linking the pier to the town centre through rose gardens and shaded avenues, passing the monument to Poland's 1945 symbolic wedding ring to the Baltic. Flat and free, with leashed dogs welcome throughout.

A 381-hectare stretch of coastal forest and salt marsh on the eastern edge of town, with flat gravel paths good for long, quiet walks. Keep dogs leashed near the wetland sections, which host nesting birds.

The two long-standing dog-beach sections at the eastern (Podczele) and western (Radzikowo) ends of town remain the most spacious, least crowded stretches of sand, even now that dogs are allowed on every Kolobrzeg beach.

A flat, paved embankment along the Parseta river through the harbour, past fishing boats and the marina, a calmer alternative to the beach with shade from the harbour buildings in parts.
