| TUSSA (City Bus) | Dogs are admitted only inside a closed pet carrier. Large dogs not in a carrier are not allowed on board. Assistance dogs travel free without a carrier. | 💡 |
| Renfe Cercanías / Media Distancia Ancho Métrico | Dogs of any size travel free on Cercanías and Media Distancia Ancho Métrico regional trains (the network connecting Santiago to A Coruña, Vigo, Ferrol). Dog must be on a short lead and muzzled if over 10 kg. ID chip and updated vaccination card required. | 💡 |
| Renfe AVE / Long Distance | Dogs up to 10 kg travel in a closed carrier (max 60x35x35 cm) at the Basic or Elige fare for €10. Larger dogs are only accepted on specific Madrid AVE routes (Madrid-Barcelona, Madrid-Sevilla, etc.) at €35 extra; on the Santiago-Madrid route only carriers up to 10 kg are permitted in 2026. | 💡 |
| Taxi & Ride-hailing | Most Santiago taxis accept dogs at the driver's discretion; always confirm with the driver before opening the door. Ride-hailing apps (Cabify, Bolt) operate in the city and pet policies vary by driver. Carry a clean blanket for the seat. | 💡 |
Santiago's historic centre is a UNESCO-listed warren of stone-paved streets, almost entirely pedestrianised. The classic walking circuit, Praza do Obradoiro to Praza das Praterías to Quintana to the cathedral's north facade, is under 1 km and entirely dog-friendly outdoors. From the cathedral, the Alameda park is a 5-minute downhill walk, and Bonaval park is 10 minutes on the other side. Note that the cobbled stones can be slippery in rain, particularly hard on senior dogs or short-haired breeds.
