SNCF Train from Paris Saint-Lazare
Rouen is served by frequent SNCF Intercités trains from Paris Saint-Lazare, with journey times of 1h10 to 1h20. Trains run roughly every 30-60 minutes throughout the day. Dogs over 6kg require a €7.50 muzzle-on-lead ticket purchased at the counter or via the SNCF app before boarding. The Gare de Rouen-Rive-Droite is central and within easy walking distance of most hotels and the historic quarter. There is no high-speed TGV service on this route - trains are classic Intercités which tend to be more relaxed about dogs than busy TGV services.
ASTUCE Urban Bus and TEOR Rapid Transit
The ASTUCE network covers Rouen and its agglomeration with regular buses and the TEOR (Transport Est-Ouest Rouennais) rapid bus system, which operates like surface metro with dedicated lanes. Tickets cost €1.70 per journey (2026) and dogs in carriers travel free. Larger dogs muzzled and on lead pay €2 extra. The réseau also operates a metro line (Métro de Rouen) running north-south under the city centre; the same pet rules apply. Validate your ticket at the machine before boarding - inspectors are common.
By Car via the A13 Autoroute
Rouen sits just off the A13 autoroute, the main Paris-Caen-Cherbourg axis, at a distance of about 135 km from Paris (roughly 1h30 without traffic). The A150 connects directly into Rouen from the north (Le Havre direction). Parking is plentiful in central Rouen: the Parking de la Cathédrale and Parking Saint-Marc are the most convenient for the historic quarter. Travelling by car is the easiest option for large dogs or multiple pets, and allows you to stop at rest areas (aires) on the A13 which all have grass walking areas for dogs.
