A municipal ordinance bans dogs from all Gandía beaches during the bathing season, June 1 to September 30, with fines reaching 1,000 to 1,500 euros. Dogs must be leashed on streets and in parks, and waste must be picked up. The trial Playa Can dog area at l'Ahuir is not guaranteed to open in any given year, so confirm with the town hall first.
Heat & Paw Safety
Valencian summers are intense; from June to September walk at dawn or after sunset and avoid midday entirely. Sand and asphalt can burn paws, so press the back of your hand to the ground for five seconds first. Carry water on every outing and watch for heat stress, especially in flat-faced breeds.
Best Seasons
For a dog, the off-season shoulders of spring (April to May) and autumn (October to November) are ideal: warm enough for the sea, mild for walks, and crucially the beach ban does not apply outside June to September. If you visit in high summer for the lively resort atmosphere, build your days around the promenade and shaded walks.
Getting Around
Gandía is the end of the Renfe Cercanías C1 line from Valencia, which carries dogs of all sizes free, leashed and muzzled. Within town the centre, the Grau and the beach are walkable, and the long Paseo Marítimo Neptuno gives a flat seafront walk that stays open to dogs even when the beach is closed. Keep a muzzle in your bag for the train.
