Dogs are banned from all Carnac town beaches year-round and must be leashed on the GR34 coastal path, on the megalith-alignment perimeter paths and in the streets. Dog waste must be picked up. Category 1 and 2 dogs (certain guard and attack breeds) face national restrictions and are banned from public transport.
Heat & Paw Safety
Brittany summers are mild and breezy, but white sand and exposed coastal path can still heat up at midday in July and August. Walk early or late, carry water, and watch for overheating on long alignment walks with little shade. Rinse salt and sand off your dog's paws after the Quiberon beaches.
Best Season
October to March is the most dog-relaxed time in Carnac: the megalith fields are fence-open and free to visit, the coastal path is empty, and there are no beach crowds. April to September brings warmth and the Tire-Bouchon train but also fenced, guided-tour-only alignments and the year-round beach ban still in force.
Beach Ban Workaround
Because Carnac bans dogs from its beaches all year, plan a half-day on the Quiberon peninsula (about 25 to 30 minutes by car) where Lizeau, Drehen, La Jument and Port Puns allow dogs year-round. This is the single most useful piece of planning for a beach trip to the Carnac area with a dog.
