La rete di trasporto pubblico di Amsterdam (GVB) è tra le più sviluppate d'Europa. Tram, metro, autobus e traghetti coprono la città in modo efficiente. Per i proprietari di animali le regole sono chiare e piuttosto generose: i cani piccoli in una borsa da trasporto viaggiano gratis su tutti i servizi GVB, i cani più grandi necessitano di un biglietto giornaliero. La città è inoltre straordinariamente ciclabile. Le biciclette cargo (bakfietsen) sono la risposta locale al viaggiare con il cane, e il terreno pianeggiante rende tutto questo praticabile per chiunque.
