A beloved collective café in the Altstadt, Café Zähringer has been a Zurich institution since 1981. The food is entirely plant-based, the prices are reasonable by Swiss standards, and the atmosphere is comfortably unpretentious. Dogs are welcome inside and the long wooden tables encourage settling in for a full afternoon. One of the few genuinely relaxed and affordable café-restaurants in Zurich's expensive old town.

The atmosphere is the kind of creative and irreverent that dogs fit right into. Dogs are welcome on the terrace and the bar area. The Spiegelgasse location is one of the most atmospheric streets in Zurich's old town.

A spectacular outdoor bar and restaurant in the repurposed industrial Zürich West district, Frau Gerolds Garten is a summer-only institution (open May–September) built from recycled shipping containers around a lush community garden. Dogs are entirely welcome in this open-air venue. Excellent cocktails, street food from rotating vendors, and one of the best atmospheres in the city on a summer evening.

A neighbourhood café in the creative Zürich West district, Kafi Dihei (dialect for 'Kaffee daheim' — coffee at home) is exactly what the name suggests: a relaxed, home-style café with excellent Swiss-roasted coffee, good pastries, and a genuinely warm welcome for regulars and their dogs. The interior has mismatched furniture and a lived-in feel that Zurich's more designed cafés lack. Dogs are very welcome inside.
