Altitude Safety & Klein Matterhorn
Matterhorn Glacier Paradise ยท Klein Matterhorn, 3,883 m
Klein Matterhorn at 3,883 m is Europe's highest cable-car station. Dogs ARE allowed but altitude affects them as it affects humans: rapid breathing, lethargy, vomiting at higher altitudes. Limit time above 3,000 m to 30-60 min. Brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs) should not go above 2,500 m. The Gornergrat (3,089 m) is the highest most dogs should comfortably visit. Hydrate aggressively and watch for distress signs.
๐ก Test your dog at the Gornergrat (3,089 m) FIRST. If after 20 min they're calm and breathing normally, you can attempt Klein Matterhorn. If they pant heavily, lie down, or refuse to walk, descend immediately.
