Getting Around Verona with a Dog

ATV (Azienda Trasporti Verona) operates the city bus network. Small dogs and cats in a carrier travel free of charge. Larger dogs travel with leash and muzzle at the standard passenger fare. Guide dogs and certified assistance dogs are always free on all lines. The historic centre is largely pedestrianised, so buses are most useful for reaching parks in outlying neighbourhoods.

Verona Porta Nuova is a major rail hub connecting to Venice (1h20), Milan (1h30), Bologna (55 min), and beyond. Small pets in a carrier (max 25×30×15 cm) travel free. Dogs of any size travel with muzzle and leash at half the adult fare on regional trains. A pet passport or microchip certificate may be required. Guide dogs travel free on all trains. Direct connections also reach Lake Garda gateway towns (Peschiera del Garda, 20 min).

The Adige river curves dramatically around Verona's historic centre, and its tree-lined banks offer a peaceful walking corridor directly from the tourist core. Dogs are welcome on leash throughout, and the path connects the Roman Theatre, Castel San Pietro, and the Ponte Pietra bridge. A full loop of the old-town banks takes about 90 minutes at a comfortable pace and requires no transport.
