Dog-Friendly Parks & Green Spaces in Trieste

The largest and most centrally located off-leash enclosure managed by the Comune di Trieste, opened in 2017 on 2,200 m² of fenced lawn between Via San Marco and the railway embankment. Double-gated entrance, drinking fountain, waste bins, shaded benches. The site is a 10-minute walk from Piazza Unità d'Italia and is the city's most active morning dog-social meeting point.

A long, narrow fenced strip running along Viale Campi Elisi, used by residents of the eastern districts and the rione di San Giacomo as the main neighbourhood off-leash area. Equipped with bins and a small drinking fountain. Less polished than the Via San Marco enclosure but with a more village-like, tight-knit user base.

The 22-hectare seafront park surrounding Castello di Miramare, the 19th-century Habsburg castle of Archduke Maximilian, is free to enter and entirely dog-friendly on leash. Mature exotic trees collected from across the Habsburg empire, formal Italian and English gardens, and panoramic paths down to the bay. Dogs are not admitted inside the castle itself, but the park alone justifies a half-day visit.
