Pet-Friendly Attractions in Torun

The heart of the UNESCO Old Town, a medieval market square laid out in the 13th century and dominated by the Gothic Town Hall (Ratusz), one of the most monumental brick civic buildings in northern Europe. Around the square stand the Renaissance Artus Court, the statue of Nicolaus Copernicus, and ranks of Gothic and Baroque townhouses now housing cafes. Leashed dogs are welcome on the cobbles, on most cafe terraces, and along the surrounding lanes. The Town Hall museum and Artus Court interior admit assistance dogs only, but the entire outdoor experience is dog-friendly.

A 13th-century defensive tower built into the city walls, leaning about 1.5 metres off vertical thanks to clay foundations that have slowly subsided. A local legend ties the tilt to a Teutonic Knight punished for breaking his vows. The exterior, the surrounding ramparts walk, and the nearby city walls are all freely accessible with a leashed dog. The small interior houses a cafe and admits assistance dogs only, but the outdoor circuit around the tower is the actual photographic highlight.

The riverside boulevard runs the entire south face of the medieval city, taking in the surviving stretches of the Old Town walls, the Monastery Gate, the Bridge Gate, and the Sailors' Gate, all in red brick Gothic. Leashed dogs are welcome anywhere along the bulwar, and the walk gives the classic postcard view back at the spires of the Old Town and the Leaning Tower from outside the walls. The most evocative free outdoor circuit in Torun, easily a one-hour loop.
