Toronto has a dense network of neighbourhood clinics and, more usefully for a visitor, several genuine 24-hour emergency and referral hospitals that accept walk-ins around the clock. None of them is a public service: emergency veterinary care in Ontario is private and paid at the point of use, so expect to leave a deposit before treatment starts and to claim later on travel or pet insurance. Note also that 911 is for human emergencies only and cannot dispatch help for an animal. Save two numbers in your phone before you arrive, one downtown and one further out, because a single hospital can and does go on diversion when it is full.
