Dog Parks & Walks in Syracuse

The wide waterfront promenade along the western edge of Ortigia, lined with palms and benches and catching the sea breeze. It is the city's favourite dog-walking route, busy with locals and their dogs in the cool of the early morning and evening. Dogs must be leashed, but the open sea views and shade from the palms make it the most pleasant urban walk in town.

The main green space of mainland Syracuse, a shaded public garden of trees and palms between Piazzale Marconi and Corso Umberto, on the site of the ancient Greek and Roman forum. It offers welcome shade and a place for a leashed dog to stretch its legs away from the busier old town. Keep dogs leashed and clean up after them, as the gardens are well used by families.

A municipal fenced dog area in the Scala Greca district in the north of the city, set up so dogs can run off-leash in an enclosed space. It is a basic neighbourhood facility rather than a manicured park, so check conditions on arrival, but it is the city's dedicated spot for letting a dog off the lead. Useful for energetic dogs staying outside the historic centre.
