Spa sits at the end of railway line 44 in the Ardennes hills. From Liège or Brussels you ride toward Verviers and Pepinster, then change onto the little line that climbs to Spa, terminating at Spa-Géronstère station near the town centre. Belgian trains (SNCB/NMBS) and Walloon TEC buses both welcome dogs under clear, affordable rules. Once you arrive, Spa is compact and walkable, and most of the best dog outings, from the town park to the Lac de Warfaaz and the Fagnes, are reached on foot or a short drive.
| Mode | Policy | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Train (SNCB / NMBS) | Small pets in a basket or crate (max 30x55x30 cm) travel free with no ticket. Larger dogs on a lead need a Pet Supplement, €3 per single journey (buy at the counter, machine, website or app). A muzzle is not compulsory but the train manager may request one. Pets may not use seats. Guide and assistance dogs travel free. | 💡 |
| TEC bus (Wallonia) | Pets are allowed if they do not disturb other passengers. Free if carried in a basket or box, or a dog small enough to hold on your lap, or an assistance dog with card. A dog too big to hold on a lap pays the owner's fare. Dogs must be leashed and must wear a muzzle if potentially dangerous. The driver may refuse animals when the bus is crowded. | 💡 |
By train: take a main-line service to Verviers-Central and change (usually at Pepinster) onto line 44 to Spa, terminating at Spa-Géronstère near the town centre; there is also a stop simply named Spa on the same line. Plan and buy tickets, including the €3 Pet Supplement, on belgiantrain.be. By car: Spa is about 35 km southeast of Liège via the A27/E42 and N62; a car is the easiest way to reach the Lac de Warfaaz, the Fagnes and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit for a day-trip.
