Best Dog-Friendly Parks in Sintra

The 200-hectare romantic park surrounding the Palácio da Pena, planted in the 1840s with thousands of exotic trees by King Ferdinand II. The park's shaded gravel paths, ponds, ferneries and lookouts welcome leashed dogs daily; the palace interior does not.

The four-hectare romantic gardens of the Quinta da Regaleira are the most photogenic walk in Sintra: an Initiation Well spiraling 27 m underground, grottoes, waterfalls and Masonic-symbolic chapels. Leashed dogs are welcome across the gardens, the Initiation Well stairs and the underground tunnels.

The 33-hectare botanical garden of the Palácio de Monserrate, planted with 2,500 species from across the British colonial network in the 19th century. The shaded fern valley, Mexican garden and Indian-Gothic palace exterior welcome leashed dogs year-round, with far fewer crowds than Pena.
