Forte de São Filipe
Above the historic centre
The 16th-century star-shaped fort on the hill above Setúbal commissioned by King Philip II of Spain, with its azulejo-tiled chapel and ramparts panorama spanning the Sado estuary, the Arrábida cliffs and the Tróia peninsula. The outer ramparts and courtyard are dog-friendly year-round; only the chapel interior is closed to non-assistance dogs.
💡 Walk up at golden hour just before sunset; the Sado glows and the Arrábida cliffs go pink for one of the best panoramas in southern Portugal.
