Dog-Friendly Parks in Santiago de Compostela

Santiago's main public park, a Belle Époque-era promenade rising on a hill just south of the old town, with the iconic Carballeira de Santa Susana oak grove and the city's most-photographed viewpoint of the cathedral spires. The municipality has designated a dedicated off-leash dog zone in the Carballeira and dogs on lead are welcome everywhere else on the wide gravel walks beneath the eucalyptus and oak canopy.

A serene terraced park climbing the slope behind the former Dominican convent (now the Galician Museum of the People), with hydrangea beds, a wooded grove, and the old monastic cemetery on the upper lawn. The viewpoint over the cathedral is arguably the best in the city. Dogs on lead are welcome throughout the park, and the upper lawns are a popular afternoon meeting spot for local owners.

A green amphitheatre sloping down beneath the Belvís convent, with formal labyrinth gardens above and a wilder lower section toward the Sarela river. The municipality has designated a dedicated off-leash dog zone at the southern end of the park, walled on three sides, making it one of the safest enclosed off-leash spots in central Santiago.
