Dog-Friendly Attractions in Santiago de Compostela

The grand Praza do Obradoiro is the heart of UNESCO-listed Santiago, framed by the Baroque facade of the cathedral, the Hostal dos Reis Católicos (Spain's oldest hotel), the Pazo de Raxoi and the Colexio de San Xerome. The four squares around the cathedral (Obradoiro, Praterías, Quintana, Inmaculada) form a circuit of less than 1 km, all entirely dog-friendly outdoors. The cathedral interior does not admit dogs.

Galicia's most important traditional food market, second only to the cathedral as Santiago's most-visited site. The open-arcade granite halls (1937) house fishmongers, butchers, cheesemakers and pulperías serving cooked octopus on the spot. Dogs on leads are welcome through the outdoor arcade and at the dog-friendly cafés directly facing the market on Praza de Abastos.

Peter Eisenman's monumental hilltop architectural complex on the eastern edge of the city, a wave-roofed cluster of museum, library and concert spaces opened in 2011. The exterior plazas and the network of paths over the granite-clad roofs are open to walkers (and leashed dogs) day and night, with panoramic views back over the historic centre.
