Dog-Friendly Beaches near San Sebastián

San Sebastián's iconic curved bay beach, ranked among the most beautiful urban beaches in Europe. Dogs are permitted on La Concha and Ondarreta from 1 October to 31 May, outside the official bathing season. During this period the beach is usually nearly empty and dogs can run freely, though they must remain under control. From 1 June to 30 September dogs are not allowed during bathing hours.

San Sebastián's surf beach on the eastern side of the Urumea river mouth. More exposed and wilder than La Concha, Zurriola is popular with surfers year-round. The same seasonal dog rules apply: permitted 1 October to 31 May, banned during summer bathing hours. Outside summer the beach has a completely different atmosphere — mostly surfers and dog walkers.

Just across the French border in the town of Hendaye, this wide sandy Atlantic beach is one of the longest on the Basque coast and has more relaxed dog rules than the Spanish city beaches. It offers a practical year-round alternative, particularly during the summer months when San Sebastián's beaches are closed to dogs.
