Getting Around Rovinj with a Dog

Pula Airport (PUY) is the closest airport to Rovinj at 35 minutes by car, with seasonal Croatia Airlines, Ryanair, Vueling, Eurowings and easyJet services to the UK, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands. EU pet rules apply (microchip + EU pet passport + rabies vaccination). The airport has an outdoor pet relief area in front of the terminal and a seasonal shuttle bus to Rovinj via Pula.

Autotrans (Arriva) and Brioni Pula run the workhorse coastal bus between Pula bus station and Rovinj, roughly hourly in summer and every 2 hours in winter, ~45 min. Small dogs in a carrier ride free; larger dogs are admitted muzzled in the luggage area or on the floor for a €5-10 supplement, at the driver`s discretion. This is also the practical link from Pula airport via a 10 min taxi to Pula bus station.

Venezia Lines runs a seasonal fast catamaran from Rovinj harbour direct to Venezia (San Basilio) in about 3h45, typically Apr-Oct several days a week. Leashed dogs are accepted on the outdoor deck only (not in the indoor saloons), with a muzzle required and a small surcharge. The most pet-friendly way to cross to Italy without the long drive around the head of the Adriatic.
