Mežaparks (Forest Park)
Riga's most beloved green space and the undisputed top dog destination in the city. Mežaparks ('Forest Park') occupies a large forested peninsula north of the city centre on the banks of Lake Ķīšezers. Because it is classified as a forest rather than a municipal park, off-leash rules that apply to urban parks do not apply here — dogs can roam freely through the pine and oak woodland. The park also includes a large open-air stage, picnic areas, and several café terraces that welcome dogs. In summer, the lakeside is excellent for swimming. Tram 11 connects the city centre directly.
Off-leash zone: Entire forest area. Off-leash rules do not apply in forest zones. Keep dogs away from the designated picnic and events areas near the open-air stage
💡 Take tram 11 from the city centre (terminus at Mežaparks). Journey takes about 20 minutes and dogs travel with a child ticket (€1.50)
