Getting Around Reykjavik with Your Pet

Reykjavik is a small, spread-out city where most visitors end up relying on rental cars or taxis. The public bus network (Strætó) covers the city adequately but has firm rules about pets. Taxis are widely used and dog-friendly in practice. For visiting attractions outside the city — the Golden Circle, waterfalls, geysers — a car is essential and dogs travel freely in rental vehicles (check with individual operators). The city is compact enough that the harbour, Laugavegur, Hallgrímskirkja, and Öskjuhlíð can all be walked between with a healthy dog.
