Reykjavik's oldest harbour café, Kaffivagninn has been feeding fishermen and locals since 1935. Rye bread ice cream, hákarl (fermented shark) tasting plates, lamb soup, and herring dishes sit alongside solid coffee and Icelandic beer. The atmosphere is warm, the staff friendly to tourists and dogs alike, and the outdoor tables enjoy one of the best views in central Reykjavik — the church façade looming across the street. Reykjavik's most beloved bakery, Brauð & Co opens at 6am and sells out of its cinnamon scrolls and sourdough by mid-morning. The queue is worth it. There are a handful of outdoor benches where dogs are completely welcome. It's not a restaurant — it's a bakery stop — but it's such a ritual for locals walking their dogs on Laugavegur that it earns its place here. Grab a cinnamon scroll and a coffee, sit outside with your dog, and watch Reykjavik wake up.

Housed in a converted bus terminal at the east end of Laugavegur, Hlemmur Mathöll is Reykjavik's best food hall — a buzzing space with stalls covering everything from Icelandic lamb tacos and plant-based bowls to excellent coffee and natural wine. The communal tables inside are busy but some stalls have dogs allowed on a case-by-case basis, and the area outside the building is completely dog-friendly. It's the kind of flexible space that works well for dog owners: grab food from a stall, take a table near the entrance, and let your dog settle at your feet.
