Dog Parks & Walks in Portimão

A long wooden boardwalk runs the length of Praia da Rocha beneath warm-coloured cliffs, lined with bars and restaurants and busy with walkers, runners and cyclists at all hours. It is an easy, flat, scenic walk for a leashed dog, leading west toward the Santa Catarina fort and east toward the Portimão marina.

An extensive network of raised wooden walkways crosses the tidal lagoons, salt marshes and dunes of the Ria de Alvor nature reserve at the mouth of the Alvor river, with loops and spurs you can make as short or long as you like. Dogs are welcome on a leash, but you must keep to the boardwalk and keep them under control to protect nesting birds and wildlife.

The landscaped riverfront promenade runs along the Arade in central Portimão, past the marina, the old fishing quays and the Praça Visconde de Bivar, with open paving and benches that make for an easy city stroll. It connects the town centre to the marina and is a practical, shaded-in-parts route for a leashed dog between meals.
