France's first public garden, opened in 1750 around the Roman sanctuary spring on the Mont Cavalier, with formal terraced parterres on the lower level and a wooded ascent to the Roman Tour Magne at the top. 15 hectares, free admission. The official tourism office confirms dogs on lead are welcome throughout the gardens; off-leash dogs are fined, and waste bags are available on site. Allow 90 minutes for the full lower-garden plus Tour Magne climb.
💡 Climb to Tour Magne before 10:00 in summer; the steep path is shaded by pines but very hot from midday, and the panoramic terrace at the top has no shelter at all.
