Bringing your dog into Great Britain (post-Brexit)
Since Brexit, Great Britain no longer accepts the EU Pet Passport for entry. Dogs arriving from the EU need a GB Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by an official vet within 10 days of travel, plus a microchip and a valid rabies vaccination, and dogs also need an approved tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment recorded 24 to 120 hours before arrival. A GB pet passport issued in Great Britain is also valid. Arrange this with your vet before you leave, as it cannot be done on arrival.
Planning around the beach dog rules
Newquay is unusually easy here, as most beaches allow dogs all year. The main summer restriction is Porth Beach, where dogs are banned 1 July to 31 August, 10am to 6pm, under Cornwall Council's Public Spaces Protection Order, and Tolcarne, where dogs must be on a lead from May to September. Fistral, Towan, Great Western, Crantock, Watergate Bay, Lusty Glaze and Whipsiderry stay open to dogs year-round. Enforcement officers can issue fines of up to 100 pounds, so always read the signs at each beach, and note the Cornwall PSPO is under review with changes possible from 1 May 2026.

Newquay has a mild oceanic climate, with soft, frost-rare winters and warm rather than hot summers, though the Atlantic coast is often breezy. Spring and autumn are lovely for a dog: gentle weather, quieter beaches and no crowds. Because most beaches allow dogs year-round, even a July or August trip works well; simply use Fistral, Crantock or Watergate Bay and keep off Porth in the middle of the day.
