Dog-Friendly Attractions & Activities in Menton

The old town of Menton is a vertical Baroque tangle of ochre and pink facades climbing the hill towards the Basilique Saint-Michel-Archange, one of the great Baroque churches of the eastern Riviera. The Parvis Saint-Michel in front of the basilica is paved with a Grimaldi family coat of arms in black and white pebbles and offers the best photographic view of the bay. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the pedestrian old town. The basilica interior does not admit dogs, but the parvis and the surrounding lanes do.

A coastal footpath running around the Cap Martin promontory between Roquebrune and Menton, named after the architect Le Corbusier who lived (and died swimming off) this stretch. The path is rocky, often shaded by pines, and reaches several small swimming coves. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout. The full loop from the Carnoles station to Menton-Garavan is around 7 kilometres and takes 2 to 3 hours; shorter sections are possible from either end. The path is one of the great free dog walks of the eastern Côte d'Azur.

For roughly three weeks every February, Menton stages its famous Fête du Citron, a carnival in which the Jardins Biovès are filled with monumental sculptures built entirely from real lemons and oranges. The ticketed garden display does not admit dogs; the parades along the Promenade du Soleil do, on leash, in the public crowd zones. Dates shift slightly each year (typically mid-February to early March), confirm before booking accommodation.
