Public Transport in Matera with a Dog

The FAL narrow-gauge rail terminus on the south edge of the Piano, end of the Bari Centrale-Matera Centrale line (1h15-1h30 via Altamura, hourly) and the only direct rail link to Matera (the national Trenitalia network does not reach Matera, the FAL is a separate regional concession). 500 m walk to Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the Sassi access. The Pugliairbus direct airport shuttle from Bari Karol Wojtyła BRI airport to Matera Piano (1h15-1h30, 8 daily round-trips), the fastest public-transport link to the closest international airport. Operated by Aeroporti di Puglia, fixed timetable, EUR 6 single ticket. Drops at the Via Don Luigi Sturzo stop in the Piano west, 800 m from Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the Sassi access. The intercity coach hub at Matera Centrale FAL station runs Marozzi (long-distance operator) and Miccolis (Apulia regional) services to Rome Tiburtina (5h, several daily), Naples (3h30), Taranto (1h30), the Bari BRI airport (alternative to Pugliairbus, 1h30) and the Murge towns of Altamura, Gravina in Puglia and Montescaglioso.
