Dog-Friendly Waterfronts & Day Trips from Manchester

A 60-hectare park around a former gravel-pit lake, the closest swim spot for dogs in Greater Manchester. Off-leash use is tolerated on the meadows and the lakeside path; the lake itself is open to dogs all year, but watch the marked swimming-ban signs around the watersports zone. Free parking, café on-site, and Metrolink Sale Water Park stop a short walk away.

A National Trust pine-and-dune coastline 90 minutes from Manchester by train (Northern Rail Liverpool, then Merseyrail). Dogs are welcome off-leash all year on the entire 4 km beach, the back-dune trails, and the famous red-squirrel reserve (squirrel paths are leash-required). One of the UK's flagship dog beaches.

The historic Castlefield basin where Britain's industrial canal network meets the city centre, with leafy towpaths along the Bridgewater Canal that run all the way to Sale. Dogs on leash are welcome along the entire towpath; the basin's pubs (Knott Bar, Dukes 92) all welcome dogs on the canal-side terraces.
