Pet-Friendly Attractions in Makarska

The pine-clad Sveti Petar peninsula closes the western end of Makarska bay, with a shaded sea-level loop passing lookouts, a small cave, the Church of St Peter and an 1884 lighthouse. It is the town's signature walk and entirely dog-friendly on a leash, staying cool under deep pine shade even at the height of summer. The views back over the harbour to the Biokovo wall are best in the low light of sunrise or sunset.

Kačić Square is the lively heart of Makarska's old town, framed by a Venetian fountain, palm trees and the Baroque St Mark's Church completed in 1756. The square and its café terraces are easy and pleasant to explore with a leashed dog, and it is the natural starting point for wandering the stone lanes of the Kalalarga. Dogs cannot go inside the church, but the open square, fountain and surrounding terraces are entirely dog-friendly.

The Franciscan Monastery sits on the eastern seafront and is best known for its Malacological Museum, a collection of more than 3,000 shells from around the world. Dogs cannot go inside the museum or church, but the surrounding seafront grounds and the promenade that links the monastery to Osejava forest park make a pleasant leashed stroll with sea views. It pairs naturally with a walk along the Riva or into the pine shade of Osejava.
