Dog-Friendly Attractions in Madrid

An authentic ancient Egyptian temple, gifted to Spain by Egypt in 1968, relocated and reconstructed in a hilltop garden park overlooking the Royal Palace and the Casa de Campo. The temple itself is entered by ticket only (no dogs inside), but the surrounding Parque de la Montaña is completely dog-friendly and offers the best sunset view in Madrid. The beating heart of Madrid and one of the great pedestrian streets of Europe. Dogs on leash are entirely welcome on both Puerta del Sol and the Gran Vía. The kilometre-long walk from Sol up through Gran Vía to Plaza de España passes the city's most iconic architecture, street life, and energy. Early morning (before 09:00) and evening (after 20:00) are best for dogs — the streets are fully open but the tourist and shopping traffic is lighter, and locals doing the same walk with their dogs are far more common.

The large rowing lake at the centre of Retiro Park is one of Madrid's most photographed and most enjoyable settings for a morning walk with a dog. The circular path around the Estanque Grande takes about 25 minutes at a relaxed pace and passes the monumental Alfonso XII statue, the rowing station, and the northern woodland gardens. Dogs on leash are welcome on all paths. The combination of the lake's reflections, the park's monumental trees, and the sound of ducks and rowing boats makes it one of the most pleasant urban walks available in any European capital.
