Getting Around Lugano with a Dog

TPL (Trasporti Pubblici Luganesi) runs the city's bus network from Lugano station outward to Massagno, Paradiso, Castagnola and the suburbs. Small dogs in a carrier ride free; larger dogs leashed (muzzle optional in Ticino) at CHF 2 per ride or included in a day ticket. Single tickets CHF 2.30 for short trips; day pass CHF 7.30 + dog ticket.

Società Navigazione del Lago di Lugano operates passenger boats year-round on Lake Lugano, with regular service to Gandria, Morcote, Melide and Italian ports Porlezza and Campione. Leashed dogs ride FREE on all boats, including the historic steam-style vessels. Single fare Lugano–Gandria CHF 14, Lugano–Morcote CHF 24. Boats are an ideal calm transport option for nervous dogs.

Milan Malpensa (MXP) is the nearest major international airport, 80 km south in Italy, 1.5 h by car or by direct ALSA / FlixBus shuttle to Lugano station. Lugano Centrale is also served by SBB direct trains from Zurich (~2 h) and Italian Trenord trains from Milan Centrale (~1 h). All cross-border trains accept dogs at Swiss/Italian half-fare rules.
