Dog-Friendly Beaches near Liverpool

Crosby's wide flat sand beach, home to Antony Gormley's 'Another Place' sculpture installation of 100 cast-iron figures, allows dogs off-leash year-round on the entire stretch from the marine lake to Hightown. The beach is reachable in 20 minutes from Liverpool Central by Merseyrail (Northern Line to Waterloo or Blundellsands).

Operated by the National Trust, Formby is a long stretch of dune-backed sand inside a 470-acre coastal nature reserve, 25 minutes north of Liverpool by Merseyrail. Dogs are welcome off-leash on the beach itself; in the pinewoods red squirrels are a protected species so dogs must stay leashed on the inland trails.

A long sandy beach on the Wirral side of the Mersey estuary, 20 minutes from Liverpool by Merseyrail (Wirral Line to New Brighton). Dogs are allowed year-round on the western stretch from the Tower Grounds towards Wallasey; a seasonal ban applies on the central tourist beach between 1 May and 30 September.
