Pet-Friendly Attractions in La Spezia

La Spezia's signature outdoor experience is the long seafront promenade and adjoining public gardens, facing the harbour with palms, lawns and the Thaon de Revel bridge as a backdrop. It is entirely walkable with a leashed dog and the most pleasant place to take in the city, especially in the cooler morning and evening hours.

The medieval Castello San Giorgio crowns the old town and offers the best panorama over the Gulf of La Spezia. The climb up through the historic centre and the castle's outdoor terraces are enjoyable with a leashed dog, though the indoor archaeological museum does not admit pets, so it is best visited for the views and walk.

The UNESCO-listed village of Portovenere, with its colourful harbour facade, San Pietro church on the headland and views back across the Gulf of Poets, is an easy dog-friendly day trip from La Spezia by ferry or bus. Dogs are welcome on a leash through the village lanes and along the promenade, with a muzzle to hand for the boat and bus.
