The red-sandstone castle stands above the River Ness in the heart of the city, and while the new Inverness Castle Experience inside is an indoor ticketed attraction, the surrounding grounds and esplanade are open to walk for free. The viewpoint on Castle Hill gives a fine panorama over the rooftops and river, and a bronze statue of Flora MacDonald and her collie greets you at the entrance.
๐ก Do the grounds and viewpoint as a short leashed loop, then continue down to the river and the Ness Islands for a longer walk
