Dog-Friendly Attractions in Gran Canaria

The 1890 Maspalomas lighthouse anchors the southern tip of the island, where a wide promenade and boardwalks skirt the edge of the famous dune reserve. Dogs are not allowed inside the protected dune field or on the bathing beach, but the perimeter promenades and the lighthouse plaza are open to leashed dogs and give the best sunset views of the dunes meeting the sea.

The founding heart of Las Palmas, a UNESCO-tentative grid of cobbled streets around the Plaza de Santa Ana and the Catedral de Santa Ana, where Columbus is said to have prayed before sailing west. A free, all-outdoor maze of historic facades, plazas and the Sunday market; made for a leashed-dog walking tour and an easy stop at a terrace cafe.

The canal-laced fishing village nicknamed the little Venice of Gran Canaria, with whitewashed houses draped in bougainvillea, footbridges, a marina and a small beach. An entirely outdoor stroll that is freely walkable on a lead, with terrace cafes all around; the Friday morning market is the island's most famous.
