Public Transport in Calais with a Dog

The Port de Calais is the busiest passenger sea crossing in Europe, with P&O Ferries, DFDS Seaways and Irish Ferries running Dover-Calais up to 45 sailings per day; crossing 1h30. Foot passengers and car drivers travel with pets: dogs must be pre-booked, ride in the vehicle on the car deck (passengers cannot stay with the car during the crossing) or in a designated pet area for foot passengers; all dogs need a valid EU pet passport or UK Animal Health Certificate, microchip and rabies vaccination.

The Eurotunnel Le Shuttle car-train tunnel from Coquelles 5 km west of Calais centre, crossing under the Channel to Folkestone Terminal in 35 minutes (the actual undersea time is 26 minutes). Pets travel in your own car the entire trip: you stay with your dog, no kennel separation. EUR 26 per pet each way, EU passport or UK AHC required; the only cross-Channel mode where pets never leave their owner's vehicle.

The Calais-Fréthun TGV / Eurostar station 10 km south-west of Calais centre, with direct TGV to Paris Gare du Nord (1h30), TER to Lille-Flandres (45 min) and Eurostar to London St Pancras (1h00). Small dogs in carriers travel SNCF EUR 7 flat-rate; large leashed muzzled dogs pay EUR 7 on TGV/TER. Eurostar accepts only assistance dogs in passenger cabins; pet dogs travel Dover-Folkestone on Le Shuttle or Calais-Dover by ferry.
