The walled old town of Cadiz is wonderfully walkable, so most visits with a dog are done on foot. For longer trips, the RENFE Cercanias C-1 line, the Trambahia tram and urban buses all accept pets, each with its own rules, and they connect Cadiz with Jerez, El Puerto de Santa Maria, San Fernando and the wider bay.
| Mode | Policy | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| RENFE Cercanias C-1 (train) | Pets travel free on Cercanias trains. Dogs not in a carrier must wear a muzzle and a fixed leash no longer than 1.5 m, one animal per passenger, kept at your feet. On combined train-plus-bus journeys, pets are not admitted. | ๐ก The C-1 is the easy, free way to reach Jerez (airport line) or El Puerto de Santa Maria for a day out. |
| Trambahia (tram) | Dogs, cats and birds are allowed on a leash or in a suitable carrier, provided they are not dangerous or a nuisance to other passengers. One animal per traveller, and pets may not occupy a seat. The operator can limit access at peak times or for special events. | ๐ก Trambahia links Cadiz with Chiclana and San Fernando; avoid match days and festivals when access can be restricted. |
| Urban buses (city) | Small pets up to about 10 kg are allowed if carried in a soft or rigid carrier, under the hygiene and safety conditions set by the municipal ordinance. Larger dogs are generally not admitted on city buses. | ๐ก For a big dog, plan to walk (the old town is small) or use the train or tram rather than the city bus. |
