Remparts de la Haute-Ville (13th-century rampart walk)
Haute-Ville ยท Rue de l'Ancien Rivage, 62200 Boulogne-sur-Mer
A 1.5 km elevated walking loop on top of the 13th-century rampart curtain wall encircling the Haute-Ville, the best-preserved set of medieval ramparts in France, built between 1227 and 1231 by Philippe Hurepel and never breached. Wide flat grassy walk between the 17 watchtowers, with continuous views west over the lower town, the port, the Channel and east to the rolling Boulonnais hinterland. Leashed dogs welcome year-round.
๐ก Start the loop at the Porte des Dunes at 8:00 in summer; the western Channel light hits the seaward ramparts first and your dog has the chemin de ronde to itself before the morning Cathรฉdrale Notre-Dame mass crowd arrives at the Place Godefroy de Bouillon below.
