Dog-Friendly Attractions in Boston

Boston's signature 4 km red-brick line painted on the sidewalk links 16 American Revolution sites from Boston Common to the USS Constitution in the Charlestown Navy Yard, crossing the Granary Burying Ground, the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, the Paul Revere House (exterior), the Old North Church (exterior), Copp's Hill Burying Ground and the Bunker Hill Monument. The entire outdoor trail is leashed-dog accessible free of charge; the interior of the historic buildings, the Constitution Museum and the ship itself are service-animals-only. One of the world's great walkable history routes for a leashed dog.

Harvard's Arnold Arboretum is a free 110-hectare living museum of trees on Arborway in Jamaica Plain, founded in 1872 as part of Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace, the world's oldest public arboretum. Leashed dogs are welcome free of charge on all paved paths and lawns; the famous Lilac Sunday in May (the only day the lilacs all bloom together) is one of the best dog photo days in Boston. Walking distance from the Forest Hills Orange Line T stop and from the Angell Animal Medical Center.

Faneuil Hall (1742, 'Cradle of Liberty') and the adjacent Quincy Market (1826) anchor a pedestrian plaza of street performers, food vendors and outdoor seating between Government Center and the North End. Leashed dogs welcome free of charge across the entire outdoor plaza and the Quincy Market exterior arcade; the interior food halls and Faneuil Hall historic chamber are service-animals-only. The plaza is on the Freedom Trail and the street-performer crowd makes it one of the best Boston dog people-watching spots.
