Bibione brands itself as a dog-friendly destination par excellence, built around the famous Pluto dog beach and a network of Club Bibione Pet Hotels. The biggest things to plan for are the summer Adriatic heat and the rule that dogs only have free beach access at the dedicated dog beach. A few local pointers make a long beach stay with a dog easy.
Dogs must be kept on a leash in town, on the promenade and in the protected pinewood. Free beach access for dogs is limited to the dedicated Pluto dog beach (Spiaggia di Pluto), open May to September, where you must show the dog's microchip and a valid vaccination booklet including rabies. Always clean up after your dog.
Bibione summers are warm and humid, with August highs around 28ยฐC and the sea reaching 26ยฐC. Sand and paving get hot enough to burn paw pads at midday. Walk dogs before 09:00 and after sunset, carry water everywhere, and never leave a dog in a parked car. The shaded pinewood is the coolest place to walk on hot days.
Many Bibione hotels belong to the Club Bibione Pet Hotels scheme for guests travelling with small and medium dogs and cats; dogs must have a microchip, up-to-date vaccinations and insurance and be kept on a leash. Guests at participating hotels receive a free Bibione Pet Card offering discounts and offers in partner shops and services.
For a beach holiday the dog beach runs May to September. Late May to June and September are the most comfortable for dogs: warm sea, plenty of sun, but less extreme heat than July and August. Peak August is hottest and busiest, so favour early mornings and shaded pinewood walks if you visit then.
