Pet-Friendly Beaches near Bayonne

The flagship Anglet beach at the southern end of the 4 km surveilled coastline, named after the Romantic legend of two drowned lovers in the rocky cove. Dogs are banned on the sand and in the surveilled bathing zone from 15 June to 15 September; outside those dates leashed dogs are welcome at all hours and the wide low-tide beach gives them room to run.

A long surf beach at the northern end of the Anglet coastline, fronted by dunes and the Chiberta forest, popular with longboarders and the Anglet surf schools. The same Anglet municipal rule applies: dogs banned on sand during the 15 June-15 September surveillance period, leashed dogs welcome off-season at all hours.

A protected pocket of sand at the southern end of Hendaye beach below the twin sea-stacks of the Deux Jumeaux, the only mid-summer dog-tolerated zone of the French Basque coast. Hendaye signposts a dedicated leashed-dog stretch year-round here, including during the surveillance season when the central beach forbids pets.
