Bath is one of the UK's most walkable and dog-tolerant city breaks. The compact Georgian centre, canal towpath, and surrounding hills give excellent variety in a very small radius.
May to June and September to October are ideal: 15-19 C highs, the towpath is dry, and the city is less congested than in peak summer. Avoid late July and August when the Jane Austen Festival (third week of September), Christmas Market (late November and December) and half-term weeks fill the narrow Georgian streets. January to March is quiet and the towpath is excellent.
From the EU you need: ISO microchip, valid rabies vaccination (at least 21 days old, not expired), and a GB Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by an EU official vet within 10 days of arrival. Valid 4 months for return. Tapeworm treatment only for Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway.
The Kennet & Avon Canal towpath from Bath to Bradford-on-Avon (12 miles east, flat, fully off-leash on National Waterways towpath) is the best long walk from Bath. The Bath Skyline Walk (6-mile National Trust circular above the city, partly off-leash on open grassland) starts at Bathwick Hill. In the city, dogs are welcome on lead through the Royal Crescent lawn (NT managed) and Victoria Park.
